When Dr. Wes approached me about coming to listen to the 8 Weeks to Wellness Program I was skeptical.  I am a runner and thought that I was in OK shape.  After listening to the program I decided to sign up.  I was absolutely amazed at the results that I got in 8 weeks.  I lost an 1 1/2 off of my waist and off of my hips, but more important than the numbers was the way my clothes fit and how I felt.  I also lost 3% body fat and gained lean muscle mass.
I also thought I ate pretty good, but I learned there is a big difference between fruits and vegetables and I am even more conscious at the store looking at the nutritional value of the food I am eating and ensuring that I am getting enough water every day.  Amy is an awesome trainer and I am in better shape today then I have been in years.  This program isn't just about losing weight or inches, this program is about learning how to live a Healthy lifestyle and that includes the body, the mind and the spirit.  It incorporates learning how to eat with physical exercise and meditation for the mind and spirit.  I would definitely do this program again!  --Heather B.


It was a gradual but steady increase. Each winter and holiday season I would gain a little more and each spring & summer, I would lose a little less. With each new plateau I would justify the fact I was a little heavier knowing my jeans still fit and admitting to myself that- “after all- I am a grandmother now & grandmothers aren’t suppose to look in shape. It’s only natural that I am gaining weight at my age. My mother was the same way.”

 When I hit the new size 12 and 145 lbs., I knew I needed to change. I wanted to lose weight and get into shape, but didn’t know how to do it. Just exercising and eating less, no longer worked. I had doubts that women over 55 could lose weight- they just didn’t have the metabolism level to do it.

 Dr. Wes came to the rescue with his 8 Weeks to Wellness program. Unlike the extreme body boot camp type of programs offered elsewhere, 8WW program offered a total healthy way of living that would allow me to get into shape without killing myself in the process. The program offered sound nutritional guidelines, I would have weekly adjustments by Dr. Wes to keep me feeling good and my body in alignment, and my own personal trainer, Amy, who would gear my exercise program to best help me to achieve my goal. It was rewarding to complete each session with her knowing I was getting closer to my goal and my body was getting stronger again as each week passed. 8WW also included another benefit that other programs didn’t offer- I had a weekly massage. It felt wonderful to have my sore muscles massaged & it was so relaxing! It was a great reward for my hard work. 8WW turned out to be a total wellness program that got me healthy again and back into my size 10 wardrobe.

 The program goes beyond the Eight Weeks to Wellness. The staff at Waukee Wellness taught me how to exercise and eat wisely- making healthy eating choices. I have continued to do the strength exercises as well as mall walking, biking and elliptical workouts. Amy continues to come up with fun mini exercise sessions to participate in to give me an extra boost or change in my strength training routine. Most important-I now know how to stay healthy & in shape and I have no desire to go back.

 I had heard about 8 Weeks to Wellness at Waukee Wellness while attending fitness classes and taking personal training sessions with me Amy.  I wasn’t sure I really understood what all it entailed until I got started in the program.  I was already well aware I was out of shape and trying to work towards improving my activity level with small changes to my diet and nutrition.

8WW has made a significant difference in my life overall!   I was able to learn to really eat to fuel my body and it didn’t seem as big and scary as it had in the past when I tried on my own.  I learned to try new foods and read about what I was really putting in my body.  The nutrition coupled with the exercise program were the two big things.  I didn’t know how hard I could really push myself until we worked up to phase 4 of 8WW.  Now I am training for my first 5k race!  I truly believe the chiropractic and massage appointments made a big difference in my  body being able to adapt and make the changes of a diet and exercise really come together for me. 

From the 8 weeks I have lost 13 almost 14 pounds,2% body fat, and 4 inches off my waist and hips.  However what really is cool is how I feel about myself and outlook ahead.  I am much more self confident in body and what I can do to improve my health and overall quality of life!!!  This is huge for me!!  I am excited to have dropped 2 pants sizes from an 18 to a 14!!  I haven’t been a 14 since the before college!  I look forward to continuing to work with everyone at Waukee Wellness to continue my healthy journey to trade more body fat for lean muscle in the weeks ahead!  - Heather R.
